What Are Double Glazed Windows?

Double glazed windows, also known as energy-efficient windows, are windows that are double or triple paned and are specially designed to reduce thermal transmission through the glazing and the internal frame. This type of glazing has many advantages over traditional glazing and is one of the most popular types of insulating window found on modern homes, buildings and commercial buildings.

The main advantage of double glazed windows lies in the way they provide a low level of heat loss through the glass. Insulation is generally produced by either air-tight or partially air-tight sealing, and in the former case, air-tight seals are installed between the frames and the inner panes of the windows. In the latter case, there is a partial air-tight seal between the panes and the frames but a partially permeable layer is left over the inner frame and the air-tight seal is omitted. Double glazed windows are particularly effective at reducing the heat transfer between the interior and the exterior of a building, but they cannot effectively reduce heat loss through the entire building. It is these kinds of windows that have gained popularity, primarily because they provide better insulation than other types of insulating windows.

Double glazed windows are also advantageous because they are highly energy efficient and offer higher levels of protection against heat loss and noise pollution than conventional single glazed windows.
